Fourth Generation Computers: 1971-2007
Characteristics:
-Fourth Generation Computers have microprocessors, which let the new computers being built being able to fit on a desktop.
-They could also compute billions of calculations per second.
-They are also affordable to most people, not that expensive.
-The basic programming language for these computers was created by Bill Gates, who also created Microsoft.
-The input/output devices were more sophisticated compared to the others.

-The Apple II was the first highly successful mass-produced microcomputer. It was created by Steve Wozniak. Since it could run programs such as Visicalc (an electronic spreadsheet program), lots of businesses got attracted to that and began using computers more and more.
-In 1981, IBM had released a personal computer,and it became one of the top sellers of the generation, it is now the basis of all the other computers coming up now.

-The ALTAIR was one the most successful computers of this generation. It was designed in 1975. After it was featured in the magazine Popular Electronics. They started selling a lot of them.
-In 1983, Apple released Lisa, the first personal computer with a GUI. It had also featured a dropdown menu, and icons, but yet it doesn't become that popular. Later it evolves in the Macintosh. (On the Left)
- Then in 1985, Microsoft announces Windows, in response in Apple's Lisa. It has advanced capabilities such as audio and video capabilities.

-Video Consoles have also started being popular. Playstation 1 was released in 1994, and playstation 2 was released in 2000. The newest model is on the left. Soon after came the Xbox, and Wii.
-Soon a competition between WIndows and Apple has started and is still going on today.
